The Indian Navy has taken delivery of the second Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge in the LSAM 8 series, part of a contract for 8 such barges with SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, based in Visakhapatnam. This initiative aligns with the "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (Self-Reliant India) program. The MCA Barge is constructed under the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) classification rules, boasting a service life of 30 years. It's a significant step towards the "Make in India" campaign, as it relies on major and auxiliary equipment from indigenous manufacturers. Induction of the MCA Barge will provide impetus to operational commitments of the Indian Navy by facilitating transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to Indian Naval Ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbors, furthering the nation's maritime defense capabilities.
