Indian Overseas Bank to auction ₹457-crore NPA from MSMEs

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has announced the e-auction of a ₹457-crore portfolio consisting of non-performing loans from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to address its non-performing assets (NPAs). The bank aims for a minimum recovery of 60%, equivalent to ₹137 crore in cash. The portfolio includes 91 MSME loan accounts with outstanding balances ranging between ₹3 crore and ₹10 crore. IOB has set a reserve price of ₹274 crore and expressed a preference for bids with higher cash recoveries. This proactive move is part of the bank's strategy to mitigate the impact of rising NPAs exacerbated by interest rate hikes. Starting November 28, investors can acquire distressed assets through an e-auction. IOB's stock price has increased, but high earnings multiples and an expected net income drop should be considered.
