Cloud computing conferences are increasingly focusing on generative AI, diverting resources from traditional cloud services like storage, compute, and security. While generative AI is promising, many enterprises are still migrating to the cloud and depend on legacy services. This shift may leave them with fewer improvements in traditional cloud services. Cloud computing companies only have a limited number of resources to spend on technology R&D. It’s clear that a lot of money has been directed to generative AI in cloud systems. Thus, it’s easy to assume that those resources will be moved from traditional cloud services. To address this, companies should provide feedback to cloud providers on their needs and concerns to ensure continued support and innovation in legacy services. The author acknowledges the value of generative AI but emphasizes the importance of supporting tech workers managing existing cloud systems.
