New power tariff norms for seasonal MSMEs kick in

MSME in the state can from Saturday alter their contracted power load four times a year without any charges. The MSME sector, which is billed under the III B tariff category, was demanding the withdrawal of peak-hour consumption charges as well as the reduction in fixed charges. Under the III B category, consumers pay fixed charges from 77/kW for the loads up to 50kW, 153/kW for loads between 51 to 112kW, and 562/kW for loads above 112kW. The energy consumption charges are 7.56 per unit. TNERC has said cottage and micro enterprises with a contracted load below 12kW engaged in manufacturing or production of iron and steel-related products can be charged under the IIIA1 category instead of the IIIB category. The consumer concerned can apply for the change of category with relevant documents, said TNERC. Under IIIA1 category, the consumers will pay 72 per KW as fixed charges and energy charges are 4.60/unit up to 500 units and 6.65/unit for consumption above 500 units.
