A Malmö University researcher has developed a groundbreaking wireless biosensor, ushering in a patient-controlled health monitoring system. This innovation detects infections earlier through smart catheters, diapers, or wound dressings. The biosensor, smaller and lighter due to omitting traditional integrated circuits and batteries, utilizes a standard RFA tag minus the chip. Operating without batteries, the system relies on induction for power, with a mobile phone transferring electromagnetic radiation to the tag, requiring proximity within five centimeters. The biosensor's conductive silver component reacts to specific analytes, altering the antenna circuit's conductivity and enabling wireless sensing of biological reactions. This battery-free technology facilitates early infection detection, enhancing healthcare and disease monitoring, showcasing its potential for revolutionizing health management.
