Numerous media organizations are blocking OpenAI's webpage-scanning tool, GPTBot, used to enhance AI models like ChatGPT. The New York Times, CNN, ABC, Reuters, Bloomberg, and French outlets like France 24 and Radio France have taken measures against it. Around 10% of the top 1,000 websites worldwide have blocked GPTBot, aiming to prevent unauthorized content scraping. Despite OpenAI's statement that GPTBot could improve AI models, entities including Amazon, Wikihow, and Quora have restricted access. Media executives stress that their content should only be exploited with compensation and call for talks with OpenAI. They aim to establish licensing and payment agreements and address concerns about their content being associated with fake information. Recently, news outlets, including AFP and Associated Press, urged AI firms to seek permission before using copyrighted material.
