AEye’s Apollo lidar sensor has been validated for NVIDIA’s DRIVE AGX Thor platform. The step lets automakers using the NVIDIA system integrate the sensor without basic compatibility testing. Apollo now sits inside the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion ecosystem. The sensor is software-defined, so developers can change its scanning pattern through software instead of swapping hardware. It can detect objects up to one kilometre away, offers a 120-degree field of view and generates 6.4 million points per second. Its compact size also allows placement behind the windshield. AEye confirmed interoperability testing with NVIDIA DriveOS on the Thor computer. Matt Fisch, AEye’s chief executive, said the validation places the company in conversations for the next generation of autonomous platforms. Validation does not guarantee production contracts, but it raises the sensor’s visibility for upcoming vehicle programs.
