OpenAI has released 377 AI-generated mathematical results, including work on unsolved problems at the frontier of research. The findings cover algebra, number theory, theoretical computer science, mathematical logic and topology. They were produced by an advanced internal model that remains unavailable to the public. The average result required about three hours of computing, and many proofs were checked with Lean, a formal verification language. For ten of the solutions OpenAI also provided summaries of the model’s reasoning. The release follows the company’s earlier claim that it had solved aspects of the Navier-Stokes problem, one of the Millennium Prize Problems. Mathematicians have raised questions about human credit and whether the model is completing proofs built on existing research.
