Paytm is expanding into a new business by selling artificial intelligence agents to enterprise customers. The move marks a major shift from its core digital payments and related services such as loans and investing. The new Paytm Intelligence, or Pi, service can deploy AI agents across functions including sales, customer service and operations. It will initially target banks, smaller lenders, insurers and other financial institutions in India and the United Arab Emirates. At the core of Pi is a financial services AI model Paytm has been developing for about two years. Built on large numerical data sets from years of transaction processing and customer behaviour analysis, the model can predict fraud, credit-worthiness and claim credibility. The agents can assess customer needs, run campaigns, help win new clients and cross-sell to existing ones. The company intends to hire about 4,000 people by early next year to grow its merchant network and AI-driven offerings.
