PLI should be expanded to support MSMEs, startups: PHDCCI president

The central government's Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, initiated in 2020 to bolster domestic manufacturing, has expanded to 14 sectors with a substantial outlay. Sanjeev Agrawal, President of PHDCCI, highlighted the need to extend the PLI scheme to encompass additional sectors such as medicinal plants and handicrafts. The industry also emphasized creating a unified platform for business interactions, particularly in tier 2 and 3 cities, to enhance operational efficiency and reduce redundancy. Agrawal emphasized the importance of boosting investments in infrastructure and promoting skill development to align the workforce with industry requirements. Furthermore, he outlined the expansion plans for McDonald's in the North and East regions, aiming to increase the number of restaurants from 180 to 300 in the next three years, including recent entries into Odisha and Assam.
