Small business owners hopeful as lending challenges persist

Small business owners in the U.S. face challenges due to factors beyond their control, but they still hope for a strong 2024. The Federal Reserve's Beige Book survey shows that economic activity has been increasing since the start of the year, with growth ranging from slight to modest in eight out of twelve districts. However, credit access has tightened since the collapse of several banks involved in the startup sector last February and March. some reports that lenders are being more selective when working with business applicants, particularly those with smaller companies. Higher interest rates have lowered demand for loans and tighter access to credit, lowering the potential supply. Despite these challenges, many believe 2024 will be a strong year for the U.S. economy. The commercial real estate industry has a pessimistic outlook, but incremental improvements in prices, demand are expected to ease entrepreneurs' troubles and set them up for success in the latter half of the year.
