The 1st annual Northeastern Nevada Section of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) Charity Golf Tournament was held Saturday, June 24 at the Spring Creek Golf Course. The purpose of the event is to raise money for scholarships for local students pursuing degrees in SME-related fields. SME gives credit for the success of this tournament to the many local and regional businesses that provide great prizes. Plus, many businesses serving this area contribute as sponsors to the tournament making it an enjoyable, industry and community-wide event. The fifteen participating teams consisted of four people each of whom played in a best-shot tournament. Each team enjoyed 18 holes of golf plus dinner prepared by Dreez Catering. Individual teams were sponsored by Black Dolphin Consulting, Boart Longyear, Cementation USA, EnviroCare, First Majestic Silver, Mine Connect USA, NewFields, Pray and Company, and more.
