Researchers have developed soft robots using materials that can disintegrate upon interaction with specific substances, ensuring data security and mission success. These robots, composed of flexible materials, mimic living organisms in their ability to move, heal, and grow. The team from Seoul National University worked for two years to create materials strong enough to support functional robots yet capable of self-destruction. By applying a substance to silicone resin that releases fluoride ions upon UV light exposure, the robot disintegrates in under two hours, leaving only liquid residue. This technology has potential applications in surveillance, scouting, hazardous environment exploration, and more. The concept of self-destructing mechanisms has led to interesting products over the years. Similar self-destructing mechanisms have been explored, such as water-sensitive circuitry and dissolving processors.
