Sony WF-1000XM5 review: smaller, better-fitting earbuds are no longer outright best

Sony's latest Bluetooth earbuds the WF-1000XM5, offer promising noise cancellation and sound quality but face intense competition in a crowded market. These earbuds are 25% smaller and 20% lighter than their predecessors, making them more comfortable. They provide eight hours of playback with noise cancelling, and their touch-sensitive controls work well. They support various audio formats with features like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa integration. The device offers balanced, detailed audio, but faces competition from Sennheiser. Its noise-cancelling performance is good, but not as competitive as market leaders. However, these earbuds are not repairable, and the battery is not replaceable, making them disposable. The WF-1000XM5 earbuds, made from recycled plastic, are priced at £259, but their superiority lies in device compatibility, not their complete package.
