Stainless steel policy likely next year, says JSL’s Abhyuday Jindal

The steel ministry is finalizing the launch of the National Stainless Steel Policy, aiming to increase domestic capacity to 10 MT. With the current production at 6.6 MT, the policy seeks to counter the impact of excessive Chinese imports causing margin erosion. Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) MD, Abhyuday Jindal, emphasized the challenge of unchecked Chinese dumping, particularly affecting MSMEs. Jindal said the stainless-steel manufacturer’s Indonesia plant expansion plan is on track and is due to be completed by May 2024. The company is also in the process of decarbonizing, Jindal said, as it continues to focus on transitioning to renewable energy and becoming carbon neutral by 2050. “We’ve already invested in almost 300 megawatts of renewable power, and whatever expansion we're doing, we're only focused on renewable energy," he added. “We have a net-zero carbon target of 2050."
