The use of e-commerce platforms poses a threat to non-integrated MSMEs in India. Businesses not connected to these platforms may need help accessing markets, exacerbating inequalities. A survey from Nov 4, 2022 to Jan 20, 2023, involved 2,007 MSMEs - 65% micro, 19% small, 16% medium. 1,005 integrated with e-commerce, 1,002 did not. The findings emphasize the need to address the barriers preventing firms from joining e-commerce platforms. A lack of knowledge about digital technologies, e-commerce platforms, and internal capabilities is the primary challenge for non-integrated firms. Investments in technology and digital skills, along with enhancing MSMEs' overall capabilities and support systems, are crucial to bridge this gap. E-commerce integration boosted sales and profit margins for over 85% of MSMEs surveyed, with 60.4% registering turnovers exceeding Rs 5 million.
