News organizations are reacting by withdrawing from social media platforms to regain control. However, those reliant on platforms face limited control as terms change unpredictably. The decline in news visibility on platforms, described as "platformed publishing," raises risks for the media ecosystem. Meta's actions, like discontinuing the News tab, signal a broader trend, impacting democratic processes by limiting access to verified and trusted news.When people cannot access (or have limited access to) verified and trusted news, other things fill the void. The Israel-Gaza conflict, to take just the most recent example, has seen an increase in disinformation on X.
