Thodex cryptocurrency boss jailed for 11,196 years in Turkey for fraud

A Turkish cryptocurrency boss and his two siblings have been jailed for 11,196 years each for defrauding investors of millions of dollars. Faruk Fatih Ozer, 29, fled to Albania in 2021 with investor assets after his Thodex exchange collapsed. He was deported back to Turkey in June and found guilty of money laundering, fraud and organized crime. Ozer, who was deported from Albania to Turkey, faced money laundering, fraud, and organized crime charges. His sister and brother were also found guilty of the exact costs. Such long prison sentences are common in Turkey, and the prosecutor had initially sought 40,562 years for Ozer. Thodex was once a major cryptocurrency exchange in Turkey, and Ozer's disappearance led to significant losses for investors. The total losses to Thodex investors were estimated at 356 million liras, equivalent to about $13 million due to inflation and the lira's decline.
