TikTok to Expand eCommerce Shop Ten Times Over

TikTok Shop is reportedly planning a substantial fee increase from 2% to 8% to enhance the profitability of its eCommerce operations, aiming to compete with Chinese-owned giants like Amazon, Temu, and Shein in the US market. Unlike its competitors, TikTok leverages its highly successful social media network to connect with consumers through viral videos. The proposed fee changes are set to take effect, with a spike to 6% on April 1 and a further increase to 8% on July 1, though higher fees will not apply uniformly. Certain products, especially more expensive items like electronics, will have reduced levies. TikTok Shop, launched in the United States in September 2023, enables producers to tag items for purchase from in-feed and live videos. TikTok Shop's online sales are expected to reach $2.9 trillion by 2026, with brand portfolios and a dedicated tab for product exploration and order management.
