Hundreds of millions of WhatsApp users can now discover, buy and pay for products and services through the chat app, its parent company Meta's chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said in a video address at the company's second Annual Conversations conference in Mumbai on Wednesday. While WhatsApp currently supports peer-to-peer payments, the move aims to make it a one-stop shop for connecting with businesses and making transactions. The new features include WhatsApp Flows, enabling richer in-chat experiences for businesses, in-app transactions via various payment methods, and Meta Verified to validate businesses. With over a billion people messaging businesses on Meta's apps weekly, the company sees India as a growth hotspot and an innovation testbed. This initiative aligns with Meta's strategy to boost revenue through e-commerce as advertising growth slows down, potentially leading to a new revenue stream.
